Jason Marquis contract details
MINNEAPOLIS — The Jason Marquis signing became official right before Christmas, but I recently found out the full details on the one-year, $3 million deal he signed with the Twins.
Marquis has bonuses based on how many innings he pitches, as he gets $100,000 for reaching 170 innings pitched, $150,000 for 180 innings pitched, $100,000 for 190 innings pitched and $150,000 for 200 innings pitched.
So if Marquis reaches the 200-inning plateau for the fourth time in his career — and for the first time since ’09 — he would get $500,000 in bonuses.
Additionally, he would receive $25,000 for being named an All-Star, $50,000 for being the ALCS MVP and $100,000 for being World Series MVP.
And like most pitchers, he also has a range of bonuses if he wins the Cy Young, MVP or a Gold Glove. He’s never received votes for either award and has never won a Gold Glove, but was named an All-Star in ’09 with the Cardinals.
