Game 9: Twins lineup vs. Pirates

BRADENTON, Fla. — After playing in a “B” game against the Pirates on a practice field a few miles down the road from McKechnie Field, the Twins are set to play the Pirates in a Grapefruit League game today at 12:05 p.m. CT.

Right-hander Scott Baker pitched in the “B” game and struggled, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits, including a two-run homer, while recording just four outs over two innings pitched.

Baker was scheduled to start the game but needed some extra time to get loose after the 90-mile bus ride to Bradenton, so he didn’t pitch until the third inning.

But after his outing Baker said he felt just fine physically, and that his problem was that he just couldn’t keep the ball down.

I’ll have more on Baker in today’s notebook. And I’ll also have a notebook item on right-hander Terry Doyle, who starts against the Pirates today. It’s Twins manager Ron Gardenhire’s first look at the Rule 5 Draft pick.
